Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news

Read by industry professionals in 148 countries worldwide!

Welcome to our Show Daily.

The second day of the show was busy, with everyone we spoke to very happy with the level of business they were doing. Many mentioned the diversity of countries represented by the visitors and we appear to have received a big influx from Russia, as well as a fair few from India and the Far East. So as well as being the largest ever in terms of stand space taken, it also appears that that show is attracting a new breed of visitor - and they're not 'just looking', from what we can understand!

What has impressed us is that there is some real innovation to be found here. It's not just 'me too' products as those that don't bother to look properly often claim... Manufacturers and designers are so obviously thinking about how to bring something new to market - so much so that we've asked a couple of them why on earth they didn't enter the innovation awards!

I write this having returned from a fabulous evening with Brightwell Dispensers, which is celebrating its 65th Birthday this year. We were treated to a very enjoyable canal boat tour followed by a delicious BBQ on the terrace of a lovely building in the middle Vondel Park. The food and the company were wonderful, the beer quenched the heavy thirst built up through lots of talking at the show - and, whenever we weren't undercover, the rain managed to stop for us, so the evening couldn't have been better (although I really should have stuck to just one dessert...) Thank you Brightwell and Happy 65th Birthday! (And if you're at the show yourself and wish to add your congratulations to ours, the double-decker stand can be found at 01.239).

Yours,

Activeion Cleaning Solutions: a statement

Since 2008, Activeion Cleaning Solutions LLC has been proud to heighten awareness of the benefits of chemical-free cleaning. Regrettably, while many customers continue to be satisfied with Activeion solutions, the business has been unable to achieve commercial viability during this time, and has exhausted its funding. As a result, Activeion will discontinue commercial operations effective April 18, 2012. We continue to strongly believe in the technology, and anticipate that the underlying technology will revolutionize the way the world cleans. Activeion wants to thank those of you who have embraced the technology and our products over the years.

Warranty service will be provided while remaining inventory is available.

Kimberly-Clark

K-C-caddies.jpgWe're all worried about the spread of germs in the workplace and Kimberly-Clark has come up with a great way of ensuring that all the products we need to keep ourselves and our immediate workplaces clean as part of its Healthy Workplace Project, (ably outlined to us by the company's Richard Millard - but more of that later).

Brussels is to push for EU-wide minimum wage

Yesterday, the European Commission proposed the introduction of a minimum wage in countries such as Germany - which doesn't at present have one - and raise wages where they are considered too low, according to a draft seen by EurActiv.

Having a job will not necessarily ward off poverty in Europe, argues the organisation, pointing out that some 8% of European workers are having to survive on wages that keep them below the poverty threshold.

Image Office Cleaning's emergency response team gives FMs peace of mind

* London-Tower-Bridge.jpgImage Office Cleaning's emergency response team was recently called out urgently by client Knight Frank late one evening to clean and dry carpets soaked as a result of a leaking ceiling VAV system. Without the team's fast response, a high level meeting planned for the next day would have been postponed.

"Calls for help like this occur more frequently than you might expect: generally as a result of flooding of some kind," reveals Operations Director Paul Hart. "We have four quick response teams based at our warehouse, near Tower Bridge, that can be dispatched to any client site within 30 minutes. We find that our call out service provides FMs with important peace of mind, safe in the knowledge that we can quickly respond to any cleaning emergency."

OspreyDeepclean

Osprey-stand.jpg"Harnessing the power of Nature" is the theme of the OspreyDeepclean stand this year, explained the firm's Enrique Mena. That's why a windmill features so prominently on the stand - which of course is all about the cleaning power of water - in the form of steam to be precise.

A windmill may have been the centrepoint of the stand - but the focus was very much on the new range of machines - SteamForce - built in Germany by the two British / German sister companies Osprey and Frank. Judging by the tangible quality of these powerful new machines OspreyFrank is undoubtedly soon going to become as well known a band name for steam cleaning as OspreyDeepclean itself ever was.

Vectair

Vectair-airoma.jpgWe were delighted to see Vectair’s Matthew Wonnacott braving the crowds to show us how well he’s recovered from the attack by a hit and run driver last November, which nearly claimed his life… Horrified though to hear that the police and even paramedics had thought he was simply ‘drunk & disorderly’ and had made him walk to the hospital transport – broken back, broken ribs, collapsed lung and all!

For our photo (11.205) Matthew poses by the new system, which, he says, will redefine odour control. It is said to be the lowest VOC rated product of its type, with particles 30 times smaller and 1/250,000 lighter than regular gas propelled aerosols and fragrances that last longer than anything else available.

Truvox

Truvox-Rob.jpgSomething was different about the Truvox stand (01.407) this year but it wasn't until we stepped onto it that we realised why... It had a much more international flavour. Indeed, on closer inspection, we noticed that the stand staff had the names of the other brands the company represents - Tacony, Powrflite and CFR embroidered on their shirts. It also had the a newly appointed European Sales Manager who was clearly a good appointment as the stand was attracting visitors from many countries other than those that make up the UK.

Miniskills competition

Team-comp.jpgAfter chatting to Peta and Alan Tilley from Prochem Europe (06.102) and learning more about the Royal Warrant of Appointment to HM The Queen, which the company was granted this year for the supply of carpet cleaning products (no mean feat that, as we learned, so congratulations Prochem!) we took some time out from speaking to all the manufacturers, and instead watched the 'Miniskills' cleaning competitions taking place just opposite Prochem's stand.

Gojo.jpgGojo has so much that’s new to talk about, that it hired a separate room to tell us about it, rather than meet us on its stand 11.417. Vileda

Vileda-bin.jpgJust when you think you've seen everything you can when it comes to waste bins, along comes Vileda Professional (04.307)! We were really surprised to discover that these bins aren't actually made from stainless steel, but are instead, plastic! This means they look smart and expensive, but are not prone to some of the problems one finds with stainless steel products, such as the greasy fingerprints, the scratches an the dents (our picture shows the company's Steve Barber trying to dent one). They have anti-slip rubber feet so they won't scratch the floor, a hook just under the rim so that any sized waste bag can be attached and lifting handles at both top and bottom. Steve told us that the show had been "incredible" and that the team was handling enquiries from lots more visitors than normal from places Russia and India.

Abertax

Battery operated cleaning machines are becoming more popular but to get the best out of them users need to ensure they are used and maintained properly. There is an answer though, as staff from Maltese company Abertax (06.201) were explaining the stand visitors.

The Online Battery Monitor, is, as its name suggests, an Internet-based management tool which helps ensure that the battery always operates at its optimum level, taking into account all influencing factors such as temperature, deep discharge, overcharge etc.

Fragrance Delivery Technologies

UAE-based manufacturer Fragrance Delivery Technologies (11.216) has launched the Viva-E oxygen-powered air freshening system, which uses the patented Oxy-Gen Powered technology - said to provide real and tangible environmental benefits with less waste and no harmful emissions. This emission-free technology generates oxygen constantly and continuously to release accurate doses of pure fragrance oil. The product does not emit any harmful or volatile gases and propellants into the environment as it is not an aerosol can.

Since the power source and oxygen generator is housed in the dispenser, the fragrance refill is fully recyclable after its usage of 30 or 60 days. The refill contains only pure, concentrated fragrance oil with Neutralox, a proprietary odour neutraliser.
