Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 148 countries worldwide! Not long after I first joined the cleaning industry back in the early nineties, I attended my first National Carpet Cleaners Association conference. I can remember feeling inspired when the British Cleaning Council’s marketing and public relations guru, Jay Grenby, spoke about the work that was being done to make the NCCA logo the carpet cleaning equivalent of the Corgi (now Gas Safe) registration that every gas fitter has to have before carrying out any work – otherwise he or she is breaking the law. Of course with customers generally wanting to buy cheap rather than pay a bit more for a top quality job, Jay had a difficult task ahead of her and the baton for NCCA recognition has been passed to various people over the ensuing years. And although we’re not quite there yet, we have seen quite a significant result this week: the NCCA tie in with TrustMark. You can read more about it below. If you’re unfamiliar with TrustMark, this really is something for the NCCA to celebrate. John and I produce an e-zine – similar to Cleanzine – for the kitchens, bathrooms and bedrooms industry and it is widely acknowledged amongst our peers that however wonderful (and expensive!) a newly fitted kitchen, bathroom or bedroom might be, it’s only going to be as good as the fitter that installed it. Use a dodgy tradesperson and the furniture and appliances will be tarred with the same brush, even if it’s 100% the tradesperson’s fault that things haven’t worked out. I believe that the NCCA, by becoming involved with the TrustMark scheme, has achieved something of a coup. I also wonder, how long it’s going to take before other sectors of the UK cleaning industry decide to follow suit. Please get in touch either by emailing me or posting a comment on our Facebook page. www.facebook.com/Cleanzine You can also follow us on Twitter @cleanzine Yours, This Week's News
Wecoline’s new free floor pad app prevents expensive mistakes I’m not suggesting that a good cleaning contractor will inadvertently run out of the best floor pad for the job, but thanks to Wecoline’s new free floor pad app, at least if that happens, it won’t result in lots of downtime or the possibility of the cleaner using the worst pad for the job and potentially damaging the floor being cleaned. “The cleanest floor and the best result, it is a big challenge for every cleaner. Even more so as clients are cost-conscious and have high expectations about the level of cleanliness,” challenged the company’s Roel Geurts. What a difference a decade (or two) makes! When we visited the Brightwell Dispensers stand and Suzanne Gardent showed us the computerised interactive ‘blowout’ of one of the company’s products, I remarked on just how much things have changed since I first visited the company’s facility in Newhaven on the South Coast, back in the early 90s as editor of Cleaning & Hygiene Today and watched the designers using CAD systems. This new programme really shows how things work and is a great sales and training tool. Unger: new products and prize draw to celebrate 50th birthday For a company celebrating 50 successful years in the business in 2014, Unger was never going to let this year’s exhibition pass by without making a big splash and it certainly didn’t disappoint. As well as a smart and well designed range of warm air hand dryers, visitors to Veltia's stand could learn more about 'ZeroSmell', which helps to improve air quality and increase the comfort of visitors to different areas and facilities.
"ZeroSmell is an innovative product that helps to eliminate bad odours," said the team. "This product has the highest level of effectiveness against the most common occurrences of foul odours often present in both, the domestic and professional environment. The team from Orbio Technologies, a Tennant Company group, told us that there had been a lot of interest in the company's new OSG (On-Site Generation) technology and in particular the newest addition to the portfolio - the Orbio os3. Through the process of water electrolysis-which combines water, electricity and a small amount of salt-the os3 system creates an on-site and on-demand effective cleaning solution and a disinfecting/sanitising solution that meets US EPA regulatory guidelines for disinfection and sanitisation. And how many trees do you kill with your consumption of paper disposables? Over the years we’ve spent a lot of time chatting to Lucart’s Omar Balducci about the company’s commitment to sustainability and the way it cleverly recycles Tetrapaks - using the aluminium and polyethylene components to produced items such as pens, pencils, desk tidys and street furniture, and the cellulose fibres to manufacture toilet tissue, other tissue products, and packaging. We thought we wouldn’t learn anything more by visiting the stand again on this occasion but stopped by to say ‘Hello’ anyway as we like Omar and his English is perfect. We’re glad we did, as we saw one of the best sales tools we could have imagined… an app which allows you to calculate how many trees are killed to supply your paper disposables needs for a year. Inpacs celebrates its 10thbirthday at the show With a 220sq.m stand placed directly at the front main entrance, the Inpacs Stand in Hall 2.101 was a central meeting point for members, interested visitors and decision-makers of the industry. “With members from 36 countries and guests from 130 countries informing themselves about the benefits of Inpacs, the international aspect of the organisation was fully conveyed during this truly successful edition of ISSA/Interclean 2014,” said José Del Pino, Inpacs CEO. Many new launches mark Premiere Products’ 90th birthday Premiere Products celebrated its 90th birthday at the show with a raft of impressive new presentations, including: Morclean proud to ship out to show's 25th Anniversary edition For seasoned ISSA/Interclean Amsterdam exhibitors, a late decision to exhibit and then confirmation of stand space around three months ahead of the event, seems to leave enough room for maneouvre, but it can be very tight. When you’re a first time exhibitor and you have a new machine to finish before being in a position to get the marketing material ready, and you learn what else is involved, it can become a little scary.
Credit then to Peter Morley and the team from Morclean, who not only managed it (partly thanks to the help of Morclean’s Dutch distributor regarding logistics) but who also had a great show too! Ecover Professional: a well thought out relaunch Ecover, the largest producer of ecological cleaning products in Europe, has relaunched its professional range with new products, new and improved formulae and new brand design. Hako trade fair promotion extended to 31st May
This innovative system records the operating hours and status of your machine on a daily basis. But better hurry - the offer is valid only until the 31st May, so you have two weeks left! Familiar face; unfamiliar location... Although we’re used to seeing David Yli-Juuti, Tersano’s Vice President of European operations, at various exhibitions around the world, we’re not used to seeing Jackie Bromley, who’s pictured here next to the company’s Martin Booth. Jackie, who joined the company as sales director three months ago from Alexandra Workwear, had, prior to that, represented another company involved in chemical-free, ozone cleaning technology – ActiveIon. Working conditions: survey reveals deterioration and wide disparities in worker satisfaction While just over half of European workers perceive working conditions in their country to be good (53%), a majority (57%) nevertheless think that their working conditions have deteriorated in the last five years, according to a recently published Eurobarometer survey, which looks at how the quality of work has been affected by the financial crisis.
Although most workers are satisfied with their own working conditions (77% on average in the EU), there is a very wide disparity across member states, ranging from 94% in Denmark to 38% in Greece. Generally, most workers express high levels of satisfaction with their working hours (80%) and health & safety at work (85%). SCA and Tork participates in the Volvo Ocean Race Global hygiene company SCA and its brands, including the global B2B brand Tork, will participate in the 2014-2015 edition of the Volvo Ocean Race - the toughest open ocean sailing regatta in the world. The extreme environment and conditions of the race will provide extreme challenges, for example when it comes to hygiene, the core business of Tork. Nowhere left to hide for germs and bacteria - thanks to rim-free WC Preventing the build-up of germs and odour in the bathroom, Laufen has introduced a new rimless WC, featuring innovative flushing technology for increased levels of hygiene. The new Pro rimless WC doesn't have a flushing rim, which means that there's one less place in the bathroom environment for dirt and smells to linger. Instead, the water reaches every part of the inner bowl and gives germs and bacteria no chance to get established.
