Welcome to today's Cleanzine, produced 'live' from The Cleaning Show at Event City in Manchester. Here follows our rundown of what we saw yesterday and if you're in the UK and can get to Manchester, we'd certainly recommend that you visit the show. There's a lot going on here in terms of new products and technology and the networking opportunities are excellent. Please get in touch either by emailing me or posting a comment on our Facebook page www.facebook.com/Cleanzine You can also follow us on Twitter @cleanzine Yours, This Week's News
Greyland: moving toward sustainability Greyland Chemicals' Richard Dyson told us that as part of its continuous strategy to be the 'best in class' in its market sector, it has been working with its bottle supply partner Alpla UK to develop and implement sustainable bottle packaging.
As a result, Alpla is shortly to introduce recycled polymer packaging to the industrial chemicals cleaning sector. Decitex shortly to unveil something special... Although he wasn't able to give us any details as it's still 'under wraps', Colin Broadbent, senior sales manager at NHS Supply Chain-approved microfibre mop and cloth specialist Decitex, told us that the company is shortly going to be launching a new product that will turn the industry on its head in terms of sustainability in the use of microfibre products. Watch this space! BCC members' representatives ready and waiting The British Cleaning Council co-owns the cleaning show with Quartz, and representatives from the individual associations belonging to the BCC are attending the show to man the stand, to network and to explain to show visitors just what the BCC and its members are all about. The picture shows just a few of them and they're asking visitors to make a point of stopping by at stand A14 and picking up a copy of the organisation's free magazine, The Voice. Vaclensa: modular systems to suit the task at hand Vaclensa's Daniel Cross showed us how easy it is to change the different components of the CT51 and CT71 scrubber dryers to suit the task at hand. "Our scrubber dryers optimise productivity and hygiene, delivered through true one-pass cleaning," he explained. "They're the perfect solution for professional cleaners wishing to scrub, wash and dry small to large areas of hard floor. Floorbrite said it's enjoying a repeat of the success it had at the 2016 show and wants us to remind everyone to visit the stand and try out in its own competition - a 3-man cyclone machine in which the competitor who gathers the most balls, is in the running for a prize. How does your cleaning cupboard rate? The team on the British Institute of Cleaning Science stand posed alongside an open cleaning cupboard, there to demonstrate how a good cleaning cupboard should look (top shelves) compared with how a poor one might be filled (bottom shelf).
Cleaners have to work hard and to tight schedules and if the cleaning cupboard is always kept in good order it enables them to grab what they need quickly and avoids the possibility that they might cut corners when it comes to colour coding protocols. It also makes it easier for them to see when stocks need to be replenished. ISSA Oceania announces leadership change & staffing expansion The Oceania division of ISSA is preparing for a change in leadership. Kim Taranto, ISSA Oceania manager, is passing the mantle to Lauren Micallef, effective tomorrow. The move comes as Kim takes her leave to pursue a new career opportunity and Lauren - a dynamic executive who has risen through the ranks of product and business marketing, leading teams and launching nationwide programs in Australia - will likely prove a worthy successor. "We are excited to welcome Lauren to the ISSA team and look forward to her future contributions toward the continued growth of the association and the Oceania professional cleaning industry," says ISSA international services vice president Dianna Steinbach. Another company enjoying a good show is Blue Rock Systems - an Enterprise Resource Planning software house with offices in Southampton, Nottingham and Brigg. Established since 2004, it supplies and supports modern, fully-integrated business management software for small and medium sized organisations throughout the UK. Its services include the supply and installation of ERP software, hardware, e-commerce, cloud hosting facilities and support. A lively programme of seminars is attracting lots of interest British Cleaning Council chairman Stan Atkins gave a welcoming speech in the seminar area, which has been busy throughout the show with its interesting and informative programme of talks. There's lots more today! Thanks to cleaning consultant Lynn Webster for her picture, which turned out far better than ours did... No - not a bad back; just making aqueous ozone TC Cleaning machines is the exclusive UK importer for the TomCat range of floor cleaning equipment. Built in America on the banks of Lake Michigan, these machines are supplied by some 300 distributors in over 36 countries and we were impressed with the fact that the machine pictured here makes its own aqueous ozone as it goes along. "Some companies' systems mean that the aqueous ozone is left in the machines overnight and of course as this has a shelf life, its benefits are lost," said the company's Dean Smith, pictured here, making some aqueous ozone. Thomas Fairbairn EcoDepo's general manager Rory McAlinden had a lot to show off on the stand and we were really impressed with the clever thinking behind the many different waste and recycling bins on display.
We particularly liked the way the liquids waste part of the equipment enables waste operatives to monitor how full it is, to prevent the overflows experienced with some other equipment. This one tells you when it contains 15 litres - although there's still more room, just in case. Rotowash: proven technology still going strong John and I both know Rotowash from our earliest days in the industry and we were pleased to learn that nothing much as changed with this popular technology, apart from "a few tweaks" as we were told. Well - as the saying goes: "I it ain't broke, don't fix it!"
Rotowash, one of the pioneers in the design and production of compact floor cleaning machines, was established in 1981 to distribute high quality industrial floor cleaning equipment, manufactured to BSI and similar International Standards by the Rotowash factory. We loved the manoeuvrability of this piece of equipment, which as well as being able to clean efficiently in and around fixtures and low furniture thanks to its handle which can adopt just about any angle, was extremely light and easy to handle, as sales manager Simon Jackson ably demonstrated. We weren't the only ones who'd been impressed by the Mira... Simon told us that the team had already taken 10 'really good' enquiries - and the show had only been open for about four hours! Busting gum - Osprey Deepclean cleans the hall's carpets Sited just inside the show's entrance, Osprey Deepclean's stand was well placed to grab visitors as they came into the hall. The company's sales manager Gordon McCready took full advantage by demonstrating how well the the GB1 GumBuster machine deals with chewing gum that has been thoughtlessly discarded on the carpets. Sure Chemicals designs, manufactures and supplies a full range of high quality products for industrial, commercial and domestic applications. Established in 1983, its success is based on its flexibility in the manufacture of products to suit specific needs and quantity requirements. Touchless technology cleans wet areas, carpet and upholstery Prochem Europe is showcasing its new touchless cleaning technology for washrooms and other wet areas that also can be used on carpet and upholstery.
The Chessington-based company's CR2 Multi-Surface is a versatile 'touch-free' restoration system that not only does away with the need for mops and brushes, but - with the addition of a carpet wand or upholstery tool - can also be used for carpet and upholstery cleaning.
