Diversey Care honours winners for 'Best Initiative in Sustainable Development & Social Responsibility' at Worldwide Hospitality Awards 2015

* Diversey.jpgSealed Air's Diversey Care division sponsored and presented the 'Best Initiative in Sustainable Development & Social Responsibility' at last week's 16th annual Worldwide Hospitality Awards. Club Med and NH Hotel Group shared an award for their joint corporate initiatives, while Gaviota Group received an award for its individual initiative.

Attended by an audience of over 800 people and receiving over 200 applications across 15 categories, the awards recognised the achievements of hotel group initiatives in promoting a sustainable hospitality industry across the world.

Club Med's initiative to 'actively contribute to local development with Agrisud' demonstrated a strong bettering in economic and social benefits for its local community, by providing local employment, know-how transfers and purchases. The initiative, in partnership with Agrisud - a charitable organisation promoting the development of agricultural family businesses internationally - has been extended to a number of countries including Brazil, Senegal, Morocco, Tunisia and Indonesia, offering up-skilling for local producers and families in sustainable agriculture. The results have produced 180 small enterprises supported by Agrisud, spanning over 1,000 people, with 60 tons of produce delivered at the end of 2014, and an aggregate financial support of €420,000.

The joint award winner was NH Hotel Group and its 'Hotel's with a Heart' initiative, which provides 20,000 night stays through agreements with hospitals, foundations and NGOs in various countries. In doing so, it provides support and accommodation to underprivileged families whose children are hospitalized with serious illnesses outside of their home cities. To celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2014, NH Hotel Group launched a special Christmas campaign to fulfill the wishes of many sick children and teenagers who were hospitalized away from home during the Christmas period and wanted to spend this special time of the year with their families close by. The campaign involved 60 hotels and the collaboration of 11 foundations and NGOs, and offered 300 night stays to these families in need in 30 cities around the world across a period of 10 weeks.

The individual winner of the award, Gaviota, an operator of more than 20,000 hotel rooms in Cuba, ensures environmental excellence by operating the first hotel in Cuba designed to obtain an innovative international label dedicated to biodiversity: the Biodivercity label. In addition to this, Gaviota partnered with Bouygues Batiment International in developing the first Cuban hotels with recognised international certification for energy efficiency and environmental sustainability.

"It is always a pleasure for Diversey Care to support the Worldwide Hospitality Awards and this year has been another fantastic recognition of the continuation and progress of the hospitality industry," says Jean-Marc Lille-Palette, vice president Europe and Global VP Diversey Strategic Account at Sealed Air Corporation. "The winners of the Diversey Care-sponsored award have all shown commitment towards a brighter, more sustainable global hospitality industry."
