John and Sue Harrison established HHS in 1966 as a hirer of farm machinery which developed into a thriving local business that is now in its 50th year. The pair initially bought a pressure washer to clean their farm machinery and recognised the demand amongst fellow farmers - soon becoming amongst the first to sell pressure washers in the UK.

Initially working at their kitchen table, the couple now run a company that operates from three sites in Hull, Leeds and the Head Office which is still in Settrington, in rural North Yorkshire. All offer sales, hire and maintenance and a spares service.

In addition to agriculture, HHS now supplies to a diverse range of industries from construction to catering, healthcare to hospitality, manufacturing to mining; the company has achieved the status of top independent servicing dealer for both Karcher and Nilfisk, and has continually developed the range to meet the needs of customers - including the manufacture of bespoke pressure cleaning systems. More recently the company has been appointed sole UK distributor for the Italian manufacturer Iteco, which makes mobile truck and brush wash equipment (pictured).

How has the organisation remained so successful? HHS has always been a family-run company which focuses on building-long term relationships with customers, and offering them outstanding service and value. Two of their children, Anne and Tom, have become an integral part of the business and work alongside Sue and John to ensure the tradition continues locally and into Europe and the rest of the world. Tom Harrison, now sales director, comments:

"Our online presence is continuing to grow, as we develop new markets within the UK and Europe. However, we will continue to offer the traditional personal service that is valued by our local customers and has been instrumentally in us achieving this milestone".
