British Library books Emprise for five more years

* Mark-Beadle_Emprise.jpgEmprise Services has been awarded a new five-year contract with the British Library, where it has provided its services at the Library's sites at St Pancras in London and Boston Spa in West Yorkshire since 2003.

It will manage cleaning, waste & recycling management, pest control, window cleaning, washroom services and specialist cleaning.

The British Library holds copies of every publication produced in the UK and Ireland in a collection of 150 million items that include books, maps, sound recordings, newspapers and postage stamps. The building in St Pancras covers a total floor area of over 112,000sq.m spread over 14 floors.

"Emprise has consistently provided a professional service and has enthusiastically partnered with the British Library over the past 13 years," says Ian Goadsby, the British Library's facilities manager.

"We challenged them from the outset to provide leadership in key areas, particularly in creating systems and strategies that would enhance our visitors' experience and develop our environmental credentials. They have done this consistently and I'm looking forward to working with their teams over the next five years."

Emprise has been instrumental in developing sustainability programmes at both British Library sites resulting in recycling rates of over 70% and savings of 100 tonnes of CO2 emissions a year.

Both organisations will continue to run two joint in-house environmental initiatives - the Children's Scrap Project, a recycling scheme that helps reduce waste by re-distributing recyclables to use in arts and crafts projects and St Mungo's Broadway, which helps homeless people get into work.

Mark Little, Emprise's managing director of cleaning, says: "We are delighted to have been retained by the British Library. Our aim has always been to work in partnership - to innovate as well as deliver its social and environmental agenda.

"Our relationship goes much further than simply providing cleaning services. With a cosmopolitan workforce and over a million visitors a year, our customer-facing, multi-lingual operational teams are trained in helping staff and the public wherever possible."

Mark Beadle, Emprise's chief executive, (pictured) adds: "I am absolutely delighted for everyone involved that we will continue to work with the British Library. Emprise has an exceptional track record within our industry and this has been reflected with us retaining this contract."
