Mitie helps Scottish Government achieve unique carbon status

* Mitie-Scottish.jpgMitie, which has been providing facilities management services to the Scottish Government since 2012, has helped it retain its unique status as the only government in the world to hold the Carbon Trust Triple Standard. This follows the successful recertification of the three awards which were first gained in 2014.

Mitie was instrumental in helping the Scottish Government achieve certification for Carbon Trust Standards for carbon, water and waste through dedicated building management and project delivery.

The Carbon Trust Standards are independent certifications, recognising organisations that successfully measure, manage and reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, water use and waste, demonstrating leadership within their industry by making real year-on-year progress.

"It's a great achievement for the Scottish Government to have received such prestigious recognition, and be the only government in the world to do so," notes Phil Holland, managing director of Mitie's Technical Facilities Management business. "I'm proud of the role Mitie has played in helping them get there."

Grahame Anderson, Facilities Services' head of delivery for the Scottish Government, says:

"Firstly, the expertise of Mitie has helped us manage that impact. They are our facilities partner, which means that they maintain the building fabric, manage the heating and lighting systems in our buildings, as well as managing the collection and treatment of our waste. They have been instrumental in helping us achieve the recertification of the award through their dedicated building management, project delivery, and data gathering on our utility use and waste figures."

Darran Messem, Managing Director - Certification at the Carbon Trust says of the accolade:

"The Carbon Trust is delighted to be able to provide independent recognition that the Scottish Government is directly contributing to achieving the sustainability ambitions it has set for the country, by continuing to deliver year-on-year reductions in carbon emissions, water use and waste from its own operations."
