Bin it - no ifs or butts
Thurrock Council in Kent tells us it wants residents to feel proud of their environment and that one of the ways to achieve this is to ensure that streets and neighbourhoods are clean, safe and litter-free.
"We are taking a zero-tolerance approach to those caught dropping litter - whether it's a small piece of chewing gum, a cigarette butt or drinks can," it warns.
"With nearly 600 litter bins in the borough, there really is no excuse!"
The council is warning residents that enforcement officers will soon be "hitting" Thurrock's streets and telling litter louts that if they're caught spoiling the borough, they will face a fine of £75.
