Truvox makes big splash at Royal Commonwealth Pool
Only the very best cleaning equipment will do for a pool that is set to host the diving when the Commonwealth Games come to Scotland in 2014 and which will also play host to the British Olympic team training camp in the build-up to this Summer's games - and after going to great lengths to find the right supplier, Edinburgh Leisure found the perfect partner in Truvox.
The Royal Commonwealth Pool, or the Commie Pool as it is affectionately known, recently reopened after a two-and-a-half year refurbishment, funded by the City of Edinburgh Council and Sportscotland, costing £37.2 million. With an average of 28,000 customers per week, cleanliness, hygiene and safety are high on the agenda.- so gold medal standard cleaning was definitely required!
The Edinburgh Leisure cleaning team has a huge area to look after - including 11 changing aisles, four group changing rooms, a large foyer area and three fitness studios. With a variety of surfaces to maintain such as wood, terrazzo tiles and wet areas with non-slip flooring, machines need to be versatile, reliable and easy to manoeuvre. The venue opens at 5.30am and doesn't close until 10pm so all cleaning has to be carried out while members of the public are around, meaning that trailing leads would be too much of a hazard.
While researching battery-operated equipment, one of the maintenance team mentioned that he had worked with Orbis Battery Scrubber Dryers in the past and been impressed with the results, so Truvox was called.
Ritchie Leith, Duty Manager for Edinburgh Leisure (which manages the RCP on behalf of the City of Edinburgh Council), explains: "It quickly became clear that we could get all the equipment we needed from one single supplier - Truvox - which made it more cost effective and convenient in terms of repairs and replacements. The level of customer service we received from Truvox's Lesley Davis also gave us confidence in the company, and she was incredibly helpful while we were setting up our systems.
"We have found the Truvox equipment to be versatile, hardwearing and effective. As the scrubber dryers and burnishers are cordless they allow us to clean areas with a minimum risk of tripping, and we are saved the inconvenience and expense of providing extensions and cable covers. The machines are easy to use and move around the centre, and the areas cleaned with the scrubber dryers are safe to walk on within minutes of being cleaned."
Lesley Davis, Truvox's Regional Account Manager for Scotland and Ireland, says: "I was delighted to work on such a prestigious and interesting project, at what is an iconic venue for the people of Edinburgh. The sheer size of the building, coupled with the different flooring surfaces and need for daytime cleaning, made it a complex account to work on, but I am confident that the machines we have supplied will continue to deliver the very highest cleaning and hygiene standards that are required."
