The organisers of next year’s ISSA/Interclean Amsterdam – the Silver Anniversary edition of this global cleaning industry event – tell us it is off to a good start with 450 exhibitors already signed and 90% of the exhibition space sold.

I attended my first ‘Amsters’ in 1990 during a brief break from magazine journalism, as an account manager for the public relations company handling what was then Lever Industrial under Brian Long (before it became DiverseyLever). I must confess that I can’t remember too much about that show or those that have followed, apart from the ‘buzz’ of the event and how incredibly busy it always is – elements which haven’t changed at all.

Help is at hand though with the posting of a stack of photo’s on this site, which had me looking for familiar faces and reminded me of companies that have long since disappeared into the cleaning industry’s history. The album is well worth checking out and you can find it here:

And talking of disappearing, renowned magician David Blaine has been signed as Keynote Speaker at the upcoming ISSA/Interclean show in Las Vegas – he’ll be on stage on Thursday, November 21st. If I could ask David to magic away anything to do with the cleaning industry, it would be those members of the general public who make the lives of cleaners so much harder than they need be… those that drop litter, those that leave our loos in a disgusting state with toilet tissue strewn all over the floor and urine on the seats etc.

If it were up to you, what would you choose?
