Blocked drains?

Leaves have fallen and it inevitably causes a major headache for all types of businesses that find they have blocked drains at this time year.

Workplace equipment supplier Slingsby supplies a wide range of drain related equipment, from products to unblock drains through to leaf guards - and always experiences a sales surge during the Autumn months.

Lee Wright, Marketing Director of Slingsby which supplies more than 35,000 workplace products across all industries, explains: "Although the problems that falling leaves cause on train tracks and footpaths are well publicised, it's often the drainage system that suffers most.

"In severe cases, when leaves block drains, it can result in flooding and problems with sewage. The good news is that leaves decompose and as long as too many don't build up they are usually straightforward to dislodge and clear without needing to call a specialist company out.

"Before attempting to unblock a drain it's important to remember that they harbour huge amounts of bacteria, vermin and other potential hazards so we would always advise wearing a good pair of gloves. Plus you should only use equipment that is designed to be used in drains because if you start trying to dislodge a blockage with any other objects, there's a good chance they'll get stuck and you'll make the problem worse than when you started."
