Awards scheme will help put civic pride back into Britain

Following the 18 year success of Britain's Cleanest City Awards and the trial run of the new Clean Britain Awards - won in March by Birmingham, planning is well underway for an extended Clean Britain Awards Scheme in 2008/2009.

The new Awards were promoted last week at the British Cleaning Council's 25th Anniversary Reception, and will be publicised at the forthcoming Chartered Institute of Wastes Management show in Paignton in early June.

Letters of support for the CBA have already been received from David Cameron and Sir Menzies Campbell and, once the leadership dust has settled, a letter of support from the Labour Party will no doubt be forthcoming.

The recent significant increase in public and media interest in litter and cleanliness standards augurs well for the extended Awards which, in time, should become as widespread and as well supported as the annual Britain in Bloom Awards.

The 2008/2009 scheme will be officially 'launched' at a CBA Seminar to be held, probably at Westminster, in early March 2008, with the Awards Presentations taking place at the NEC Cleaning Show in March 2009.

Discussions are currently in progress to secure major sponsors for the Awards as well as key 'influencing' partners, in addition to politicians of all Parties.

The 2008/2009 Clean Britain Awards is timed well for the 2012 Olympics and the Awards strapline 'Helping Put Civic Pride Back into Britain' is one into which all sectors of society will surely 'buy'.

We all want a cleaner, safer Britain and the CBA are a positive and pro-active way for the whole massive cleaning industry to show the lead in promoting Britain as not just a nice place to live - but a clean one too!
