How can a floor look this good without floor polish?
Campbell College was built in the 1800's. It is now a listed building and stands as an impressive example of Victorian architecture. It sits in a wooded campus of some 100 acres just to the east of Belfast. The 1,050 boys that attend the school on a daily or boarding basis benefit from the fantastic facilities which include a swimming pool, 10 rugby pitches, six cricket squares and an athletics track.
The College has for sometime had a problem maintaining the floor in its prestigious main Assembly Hall, which is used every day. For years the floor had been polished with spirit-waxed based cleaners but this caused many problems for the Cleaning Manager, Trevor Arthur. He explained to local distributor, Ballymartin-based Anachem, that any contact with water or soft drinks caused the floor to turn white and he needed to constantly burnish it, which was hard work yet never really made the floor look clean.
Joe Annetts from Anachem helped Trevor implement a new cleaning programme which totally does away with need for floor polish and hence the expensive and time consuming stripping and repolishing.
The programme is based around Xola Hyflex - a high gloss floor seal that is simply maintained by using a cleaner or a floor maintainer - there is no need to coat it with a floor finish so stripping and re-finishing are not necessary. The floor was first stripped with Xola Stripfree, a seal and polish stripper which removed all the previous treatments including the solvent based polishes from the floor. Three coats of water based Hyflex were then applied.
Campbell College is maintaining the floor using two of Brapack's products: Xola Supercare, Brapack's excellent 
floor restorer and maintainer and Xola Solaclean - the company's super-built universal cleaner.
The College is extremely pleased that the floor in its Assembly Hall now fully compliments the beautiful architecture surrounding it. Indeed some of those who have attended the school and then gone on to become board members in later life have said that in all their time they have never seen the floor in such good condition. They are amazed that even with the numbers currently attending the school the floor continues to perform superbly well.
The thought of never having to strip the floor again brings a smile to Trevor Arthur's face every time he thinks about it! "Now the floor has been restored, it has greatly improved the appearance, while the maintenance costs associated with keeping it in order have been drastically reduced," he says.
This is another success story for Hyflex, which can be applied to vinyl, stone, terrazzo and concrete as well as wooden floors.
