TecServ under new management
It is some months since Premiere Products finalised its purchase of FCM Holdings, but the company has not been inactive in integrating the two businesses - with the results now becoming evident in the marketplace.
Of particular interest to the cleaning industry are the changes introduced into TecServ, the service support division of Premiere. Having recently recruited Matthew Talbot, the new General Manager of TecServ, to spearhead the major changes to the way TecServ manages its service activities, the business is now developing its offer to the cleaning industry.
A new team of executives now report to Matthew Talbot, with the object of offering all accounts an optimal level of service covering fast response times with the ultimate levels of communication with the customer.
Based at Peterborough and operating a team of 30 field service engineers around the UK, TecServ offers a wide option of service support levels, ranging from the standard 'call out on demand' through to an all encompassing contract offering complete asset management of a contract cleaner's portfolio of cleaning machines, charged at a fixed price monthly fee payable over the period of the thee year contract.
"Premiere has a vision for TecServ that would see it as the leading service provider within the UK to all companies using industrial/commercial cleaning machines; all of the restructuring of the TecServ business has been designed to move it towards this objective as speedily as is possible," says Matthew. "There is a lot more to the TecServ offer but this will become apparent to the market over the next few months."

And after years of Golden Service...
Often referred to as 'Mr Kimberly-Clark' thanks to almost 40 years spent as PR consultant to the company, possibly the longest client relationship on record, (most recently with regard to the Golden Service Awards) Peter Vezey is no longer working for K-C Professional. As a result he is looking to fill the breach with new clients to join a portfolio that includes - or has included - The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, The British Institute of Cleaning Science, Cleanfix, Kew Pressure Washers and Wap Pressure Washers, together with contract cleaners & FM companies such as Burke & Clemens, Tara Support Services, LCC Support Services, MITIE and Brittania Contract Cleaning, as well as Floors Expo Exhibition, Betco Flooring, Trudec Flooring and a whole lot more.
"I have fond memories of my time working with Kimberly-Clark," says Peter. "Over the years I launched the K-C consumer salesforce magazine, the first kitchen roll, first paper wipers, first workwear and first wet hand wipe.
"I'm most proud though about having invented the Golden Service Awards, which I organised for the first 10 years and handled the PR for, over 17 years in total. And of course that's now become a highly successful global event.
"I also invented the Distributor Service Excellence Awards, formerly known as Distributor of the Year Awards, handled the media for the Maidstone Mill closure and conducted many very creative product launches."
These launches included workwear fashion shows, Peter being sprayed from head to toe in red paint by an 'intruder' at a press lunch, (to prove that K-C workwear didn't leak onto his suit beneath it); a wiper launch at Youngs Brewery to show the product strength when ropes were made from the wipers for brewers' dray horses to pull the beer deliveries, a launch at the Spittin' Image puppet theatre in Covent Garden as well as many more...
They were always well attended and enjoyed by members of the press who devoted lots of space in their publications to the many products that had been demonstrated to work so well. But it's not all about K-C, and having spent six years on the board of three top London agencies: Daniel J Edelman, Grayling and Barclay Stratton, Peter decided to 'go it alone'.
"I got fed up with agency attitudes to clients as being idiots who will pay over the odds for representation, so set up my own consultancy and went full time with it in 2001," says Peter. "Now I can employ whoever is best for the job and the client gets the best deal and not just the PR executive with the most time on his or her hands. "I put 95% of fees into consultants' time as we have virtually no overheads, investors, directors or shareholders to worry about and we provide a better than London service at out-of-town prices. We offer real value for money."
Peter has a team of four part time consultants and a graphic designer and in addition to editorial services, produces artwork for print, newsletters and brochures, radio commercials, poster and railway advertising etc. The company specialises in the cleaning and FM business and provides business-to-business, corporate and consumer public relations services; issues, crisis, Events and Awards management. It is currently running at £250,000 turnover with blue chip clients and has Associate offices throughout Europe.

Readers who know Linda Dionne Ng (MBICSc) will no doubt be as delighted as we are that she has agreed to act as our Asian correspondent. Singapore-based Linda will send us additional news snippets from her region, for inclusion in Cleanzine. The first piece appears in 'This week's news', below. Linda has over 20 years of related industry experience. She has been the British Institute of Cleaning Science's Far East Representative, Moderator and Assessor since 2004 and manages the Singapore-based Far East Office, where she serves as the primary contact for existing and prospective office/ training centres in the Far East, including the UAE, and promotes training and excellence in cleaning throughout the region. In 2005 she won the BICSc World Wide Award for Outstanding Performance in the Promotion of the Institute. Linda, who has been certified in food hygiene with The Chartered Institute of Environment Health in the UK, introduced and established the BICSc housekeeping course (COPC) in the Far East - which today is the benchmark course for the cleaning and environmental industry for all levels of entry, and she developed and now delivers monthly housekeeping courses in Singapore - we understand that an incredible 90% of Singapore's executive housekeepers have attended this course. Importantly, Linda is also promoting the need for Government and commercial organisations to specify that cleaners be BICSc trained and qualified when contracts go out to tender, has been instrumental in the setting up of nine BICSc training centres in the Far East and an increase of 70% in certification and membership, while helping organise cleaning exhibitions and conferences.
