Specialist data centre cleaning provider, 8 Solutions, has been awarded the Enhanced Builders Clean and Clinical Clean package, for information firm Electronic Data Systems’ new flagship data facility, being built by Interior Services Group.

The contract, which is estimated to be worth over £250,000, will see 8 Solutions providing a full clinical clean to ISO 14644-1 standards of the entire facility, working on site over a period of four months.

The new, low energy, 300,000sq ft data centre, which is situated in Wynyard Business Park, north of Middlesborough, will be a phased fit out, with phase one being the completion of four halls, encompassing 45,000 sq ft of technical accommodation, for completion in September 2009.

ISG’s Financial Manager Trent Northover says: “8 Solutions put together the most comprehensive tender and was totally accommodating; even visiting for a site inspection late into the evening to ensure that all aspects of the project were understood and clearly defined. That is the sort of attitude we look for in our partners and have found in 8 Solutions”.

The facility will feature a five metre floor void and utilise fresh air cooling to minimise the carbon footprint and optimise operational running costs, with an estimated PUE of 1.16 – requiring extensive modifications to the existing base build.

Once completed the facility will be occupied by EDS, one of the largest IT services suppliers operating in the UK. Recently purchased by computer giant HP, EDS works with some of the country’s biggest names and has contracts with the Government, British Airways, Rolls Royce and Royal Bank of Scotland, to name just a few.
