Think health & safety is all rubbish?

Waste, recycling and skip hire companies in and around London are being invited to attend a free course in a bid to help reduce the high levels of death and injury in the sector.

The waste and recycling industry has nine times more fatal accidents than the national average and four times as many workers suffer injuries.

The Health & Safety Executive is keen to see that safety remains a priority as businesses expand in response to increased recycling rates.

Over the next nine months the HSE is planning a series of nationwide visits to skip hire companies. The free safety awareness event is to provide advice and information to firms in this sector prior to these visits.

The event is taking place at Bywaters, Lea Riverside, Twelvetrees Crescent, Bow, E3 3JG, from 08.30 until 11.30am on Monday 25th January.

This event is aimed at skip hire companies and commercial waste/recycling companies and you should attend if you are responsible for or are in any of the following roles:

• manager;
• driver;
• site operator; and
• in control of pedestrian areas.
