Chemaide has launched a new product which, it believes, will change the way the cleaning industry deals with the problem of cleaning and sanitising conventional mops and mop heads.
For many years cleaning chemical manufacturers have worked to produce the best and most effective cleaning products; the only down side of this increased cleaning performance being that the more dirt that is lifted from the dirty floor, the more contaminated the mop heads become!
Similarly, when cleaning tools such as filthy mops come into contact with floor surfaces, they cause bad odours and cross contamination - spreading germs and even illnesses from one part of the building to another.
The degree of contamination likely to be experienced during the cleaning process can be determined by identifying low and high-risk areas of a building. For example high-risk areas would include toilet, food service and sports changing room areas. These areas are most susceptible to rapid bacteria growth and can contaminate mops almost instantly.
"It is advised by many organisations that for cleanliness and to prevent mops causing cross contamination, mop heads should be removed and laundered, preferably daily, and stored to dry. Mop buckets should be emptied, washed and dried after each use," says Chemaide. "Good solid advice, but in practice how many cleaners actually carry it out and have the facilities to do so? The result is premature disposal costing hundreds of pounds.
"The problem on many sites is the laundering on a daily basis to insure the mop heads are clean and bacteria-free. So what will give us this insurance when the facilities are just not there?
"It is well documented that Chlorine-releasing agents e.g. hypochlorite/bleach are rapidly effective against bacteria, viruses and spores. However they do not work or the performance is very limited in the presence of dirt or organic material, so it is important to clean a product thoroughly before using them.
"So to achieve a satisfactory result a two part process is required, proving time consuming and potentially leading to a health and safety risk."
With over 60 years' combined experience in Chlorine NaDCC tabletting and hygiene and maintenance product manufacture, Chemaide has found a novel way of sanitising mop heads while affording superior cleaning - Chemtab-Plus.

Chemtab-Plus is a fast dissolving 3.25 gram tablet which combines the sanitising power of NaDCC - a well established disinfectant in the cleaning industry - with detergent builders and low foaming surfactants for superior cleaning results. Depending on the degree of soiling, between one and four tablets are placed into a bucket of fresh, clean, warm water. The mop heads are simply left to soak in the solution, rinsed and then left to dry.
Chemtab-Plus is simple, safe and more effective than the two part method previously described, and in addition, a tablet has a greater biological effect due to a near neutral PH of 6.5 and is less corrosive to metals than the liquid bleach that is often used for this task.
A safe, stable, convenient and economic alternative to the age old problem of cleaning and sanitising mop heads... should any cleaning cupboard be without Chemtab-Plus?
