New antibacterial paint will help improve hygiene

Sheffield Insulations is introducing the antibacterial paint, Inducoat B2, to the professional trade through its branch network, allowing contractors and their clients the opportunity to create cleaner, safer and more hygienic environments.

Inducoat B2 paint contains BioCote antibacterial protection that helps stop the growth of bacteria and mould on surfaces such as walls, ceilings and partitions, which can be prone to the build up of harmful bacteria that are invisible to the eye as well as more obvious signs, such as mould. It works in-between regular cleaning, offering 24 hour protection against the build up of mould and bacteria.

Commenting on the introduction of the B2 paint, Elaine Gardner, Product Manager for Sheffield Insulations said: "We supply very large volumes of drywall materials to major UK contractors working on numerous infrastructure projects including hospitals and schools. Making the B2 paint available through our branches is a natural extension to the already comprehensive offer we have for this important sector.

"Public buildings are potential breeding grounds for dangerous bacteria, such as MRSA and E.coli, leading to illness and infection amongst occupants. Working with two industry leaders in antimicrobial technology, we can now offer our clients a superior quality antibacterial paint that addresses the need for hygienic environments."

Inducoat B2 paint creates cleaner, safer and more hygienic interiors, helping to alleviate the risks of cross-contamination, illness and infection from the environment.   It is specifically designed for buildings where hygiene is important, including hospitals, care homes, schools, restaurants, leisure centres and other public environments.

The paint is manufactured by Dutch paint specialist Inducoat BV, which offers a superior quality paint and over 40 years' experience in antimicrobial coatings. It is said to be the first to be formulated with BioCote silver ion technology to provide continuous resistance to bacteria and mould.

Utilising silver ion technology, BioCote is a leading antimicrobial brand used by manufacturers across the world to give their products built-in sustainable protection against bacteria and mould. It retains its antimicrobial efficacy for the service life of the paint, reducing bacteria and mould by up to 99.9% over a 24 hour period, with rapid reduction of over 80% in about two hours. It is safe and natural and will not wipe away, break down or leach from paint.

BioCote protected products are currently being specified on building developments where hygiene is important, such as NHS hospitals and education developments. Products available with BioCote include door handles, tiles, ceilings, light switches and now paint, making it possible to create complete protected environments.

Recent environmental trials in a hospital and care home have proven that bacteria levels can be reduced by over 95% by fitting out a room with BioCote protected products.   An environment containing less bacteria is cleaner, safer and more hygienic for occupants.
