Award-winning cleaning chemical range explained

In this article, Daunpol explains the benefits of its new NanoClean line of professional chemical products, which won a Golden Broom award at last month's ISSA/Interclean exhibition in Poland.

Silver is the metal which has the highest electrical and thermal conductivity of any of the elements. As well as being a precious metal, it is a trace element important to the correct functioning of an organism. Its therapeutic properties have been known since ancient times. Initially its strong antiseptic properties were utilised, but its ability to stimulate growth and enhance the development of cells were soon exploited too. Silver was used to help cure bacterial, virus and fungal infections in wounds and in cases of burns.

What makes the NanoClean line so special is the small size of the silver and copper nanoparticles within the products. These are mostly in the range of 3-7 nanometers, while the smallest bacteria are about 500 nm in size.

The products are made by a patented process that unusually does not alter the chemical structure of the metals. This is a most important feature as even small amounts of silver in the ionic form (silver salts) can be toxic. In recent years reports have appeared concerning the possibility of forming strains of bacteria resistant to silver ions because of their chemical interaction with cell structures. However, they are not able to form protective mechanisms against metallic nanoparticle silver (also called as the 'silver bullet') because it is chemically passive and its activity is limited to physical activity.

Atoms the nanoparticles obtained by our process are arranged in a strictly determined way, creating a unique crystallite in the form of flakes. This, and their large numbers, are essentially what give our nanoparticles their exceptional properties and enable them to be so effective in reducing the number of micro-organisms such as bacteria, viruses and funguses on any surface to which the NanoClean range is applied, by destabilising their external membranes.

As well as reducing these micro-organisms, NanoClean products leave a film on the cleaned surfaces, creating a barrier which helps prevent the further development of micro-organisms for some time. Some of NanoClean products as a daily cleaning agents (N3, N4, N5), thanks for regular using, permanently protects against their development. Others as protective solusions (N1, N2) keeps safe surfaces for a longer time.

Intended for areas requiring higher standards of hygiene and particularly recommended for application in health are facilities, food processing, schools, kindergartens, nurseries, beauty salons, changing rooms etc, there are products in the range to suit application on textiles as well as floors, walls, ceilings and work surfaces. They do not cause surfaces to fade or change colour and are resistant to UV rays.

The current range comprises (with hand soaps soon to be introduced):

NanoClean N1, a surface protecting solution
NanoClean N2, a polymer floor coating that is resistant to disinfectants
NanoClean N3 for the daily cleaning of floors
NanoClean N4 alcoholic disinfectant for appliances and surfaces
NanoClean N5 for sanitary cleaning
