I've always been pretty vocal about the need to reward people for recycling, rather than prosecute them for getting it wrong, so it was good to learn this week that the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is taking part in a pilot scheme which does just that.

It was more than a year ago that Cleanzine reported on a scheme drawn up by the old Labour government, whereby a Council Tax rebate would be given to householders who recycled the most rubbish and a fine levied on those who put the most recyclable rubbish in their bins.
