Greyland charity sponsorship in the Pink!
Greyland were proud to sponsor Dowson Primary School staff members recently who ran the Heaton Park 'Race for Life' in memory of former pupil Kirsty Saunders who tragically died earlier this year of Leukemia just two weeks after her 16th birthday.
The run was organised by Lynne Beever (centre with pink hair!) who is married to Russell Beever, Greyland Works Technical Manager.
Lynne says that Kirsty "was a lovely girl, who lit up a room." And although Kirsty had left Dowson Primary she regularly visited the school and was loved by all who knew her.
After Kirsty's tragic passing, Lynne wondered what the school staff could do in her memory, and in particular, something that they would not normally do. "I would definitely not run 10K", says Lynne, "but for Kirsty I would."
During training Lynne dislocated a disc in her knee, holding up her training for six weeks, and during the run, she pulled a muscle.
"It was easier to carry on running, than walk. So I did. I'm pleased to say we all finished for Kirsty."
Greyland sponsored the T shirts and kick-started the fundraising, which reached over £3,500 on the day.
