Mechanised cleaning welcomed at Hubballi railway station
Complaints about the cleanliness of platforms and railway tracks at Hubballi Railway Station are likely to dwindle in the coming days, with the introduction of advanced cleaning machines for the work.
On Monday, Pralhad Joshi, MP and Prasad Abbayya, MLA for Hubballi Dharwad East Constituency, welcomed the new cleaning equipment acquired by the Khagaul Loco Labour Cooperative Society, which has won the cleaning contract for Hubballi station.
The equipment includes two diesel-operated water jets, two vacuum cleaners and two steam cleaners, together with four battery-operated scrubbers.
Examining the mechanised cleaning equipment and machines, the pair decided to test their cleaning potential by operating the battery-operated scrubbers.
Pralhad Joshi told The Hindu that complaints about the cleaning of the railway station were often raised during the Zonal Railway Users Consultative Committee (ZRUCC) meetings and that thanks to the mechanised cleaning, the complaints might be reduced.
Prasad Abbayya said that the Swachh Bharat initiative would be futile unless everyone joined with government agencies in keeping their surroundings clean.
The executive director of the Gurdeep Singh Jagdev society said that a total of 84 cleaning staff would be deployed for the cleaning and that six supervisors would monitor their efforts.
