Marshall County Hospital invests in first UV disinfection robot
Marshall County Hospital in Benton, Kentucky, US, has added a new member to its environmental services team to proactively reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infections.
The new addition, Tru-D SmartUVC, short for 'total room ultraviolet disinfection', is a UV disinfection robot that uses UVC light energy to kill deadly pathogens such as C. diff, MRSA, MERS, Ebola and more.
"Marshall County Hospital is excited to deploy Tru-D as an added layer of protection against germs and pathogens that can linger in patient and operating rooms after traditional cleaning is performed," says Marica White, the hospital's public relations director.
"Tru-D will complement our existing infection prevention programme to ensure our hospital is as safe and germ-free as possible for each and every patient who walks through our doors."
Through its patented Sensor360 technology, Tru-D is able to compensate for room variables such as size, shape and contents to deliver the precise, lethal dose of UVC energy needed for each unique room.
Before Tru-D is activated, ES professionals clean the room with standard cleaning protocols; Tru-D is then brought in the room to begin administering a single cycle of UV energy, providing thorough room disinfection. Through its method of calculated, measured UV dosage, Tru-D is able to disinfect in both direct, line-of-sight and shadowed areas while removing the chance of human error in the disinfection process.
After the cycle is complete, Tru-D alerts the operator via text and/or audio message that the cycle is complete and the entire room has been disinfected.
