Jangro sharpens up its expert training offering
For operatives working in areas where there are sharps (needles and other objects used to puncture the skin), cleaning can be extra hazardous. With the correct management, the risk of accidents can be reduced. That's why Jangro, the largest network of independent janitorial and cleaning distributors in the UK and Ireland, has expanded its award-winning training programme, LMS (Learning Management Solution) with a new module dedicated to Sharps Handling.
The course takes only 30 minutes to complete, and by the end of it, operatives should be able to:
- Understand the nature and the scope of a workplace hazard
- Identify various risks caused by needle-stick and sharps injuries
- Understand the five-step process of risk management
- Identify the roles and responsibilities involved with managing sharps waste
- List Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other tools, and understand why they are important
"Research in the healthcare sector suggests that the incidence of sharps injuries are likely to be under-reported," notes Joanne Gilliard, CEO at Jangro. "This could also be the case in the cleaning business, as there is no industry data related to operatives who have reported needle stick injuries as part of RIDDOR (Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations).
"Here at Jangro, we are committed to ensuring the safety of workers in our industry. We hope that our new Sharps Handling module will equip operatives with the knowledge to work more safely and thereby reduce their risk of sustaining an injury."
The Jangro LMS is a highly innovative, fully interactive and accessible e-learning platform, free to all Jangro customers and their staff, and is optimised for all devices. As well as Sharps Handling, there are also modules in Manual Handling, COSHH, Health & Safety, Colour Coding and Infection Control, Washroom Hygiene, and much more.
A key benefit of the LMS is that course lengths vary, with users able to train remotely at times that suit them. This allows cleaning operatives to dip in and out of short sessions or longer sessions, making learning highly flexible and accessible.
Jangro also offers Task Cards, which are brief, highly visual documents containing step-by-step instructions for product usage and safety information, to help busy operatives access best practice on the go.
