TBM Rail and Sanitaryware supplies team up for Transpennine
TBM Rail provides specialist solutions to the rail industry by creating products and services that tangibly improve journey quality, pinpointing expert suppliers to create innovative solutions to a range of rolling stock projects including the Transpennine trains and other projects with specialists Bombardier and Siemens. Sanitaryware Supplies Company is one of those suppliers.
As well as providing bespoke washbasins for a refurbishment project Bombardier carried out on East Midlands Trains, Sanitaryware Supplies designed and manufactured several bespoke solutions for the Transpennine project such as steel boxes for a new type of USB socket that allows train passengers to recharge their devices.
New sets of purpose-made grab poles for the carriages, steel electrical switch boxes and cable securing clips were amongst many other smaller fabrications. Work has also just been completed on new dado panels that fit the inside of carriage walls. The panels were fitted with power sockets, and the project meant that the company had to deliver 896 panels in lengths from 1m up to 2.8m.
"The partnership with TBM Rail has been exciting," says Andrew Duklow of The Sanitaryware Supplies Company. "Our ability to offer fabrications across various material types, including machined parts, in short lead times and to a high specification, has allowed TBM to open up a new service for the part of its business which looks after fleet refurbishments. Railway work is very much custom made and under severe time pressure. The product must be able to stand up to very hard wear.
