Strange times we're living in, aren't they? I'm sat here chuckling to myself as for only the second time in the 20 years I've lived in my house, I'm aware that there's a woodpecker about. Whenever I hear its surprisingly loud tapping on next door's dead tree, I rush to the window to see if I can spot it.

I've just done the same thing, having heard a plane fly over! I didn't at the time think that it may be the last time I'll see one above me (I live in the bit where planes circling to land at Gatwick or Heathrow just avoid one another overhead) but who knows what's going to happen in the future - or not, as the case may be?

Last Thursday something else unprecedented happened when the nation's cleaners were lauded in Parliament - a statement repeated in various forms by heads of state all over and in the European Parliament too.

That evening something else odd happened in the UK. Residents from all over, stood outside their homes and workplaces, at windows or on balconies, clapping and cheering for the NHS and other care workers for putting their lives at risk to look after us. Tonight, when we're all out there again, I'm going to be applauding the cleaners, too. I do hope you'll join me...
