This appointment builds on Mitie's investment in industry leading cleaning innovations and its commitment to drive best practice to ensure it continues delivering exceptional cleaning services for its customers.

In 2019, Lorraine was appointed chair of the British Institute of Cleaning Science, a post she will continue to hold until September 2022. She has also previously collaborated with the World Health Organisation, as part of the Clean Hospital Group, and the NHS to help develop the 2021 National Cleaning Standards for hospitals. In addition, Lorraine has worked with Public Health England to support with the development of the Covid-19 guidance for Facilities Management.

Lorraine brings a wealth of experience from encouraging the adoption of new cleaning technology through to helping design guidance for healthcare cleaning to support infection control. As director of cleaning services, she will develop Mitie's 'Centre of Excellence' training academy as well as drive Mitie's innovation-led approach to cleaning, for example with the rollout of technology such as robotic cleaners that use ultraviolet light to disinfect surfaces and sensors that monitor footfall to identify spaces that are used frequently and where cleaning should be prioritised.

Lorraine will also work to ensure that Mitie continues to introduce services that not only help keep sites safe, but also support customers' sustainability goals, such as chemical-free cleaning solutions, as part of Mitie's Plan Zero commitment.

"The pandemic has made clear just how important a clean environment is to create safe and healthy workspaces,” notes Jason Towse, managing director, Business Services, Mitie.

“Having helped introduce many of the nationally-recognised cleaning guidelines that we now take for granted, Lorraine brings a wealth of experience that will keep Mitie at the forefront of innovation, ensuring we have access to the latest science behind our cleaning services.

“With offices, retail shops and restaurants reopening, this will help our clients reassure their customers that they're doing everything they can to keep them safe."
