Steam in the snow

Jangro, the UK's largest network of independently owned janitorial companies with 41 in the UK, Ireland and the Isle of Man, always prides itself in 'going the extra mile' for its customers.

Last winter when the snow was building into 20' drifts, Jangro Member MacGregor Industrial Supplies of Inverness received a call for a new carpet steam cleaner from the Ptarmigan Restaurant in the Visitor Centre of Cairngorms Mountain Ski Centre.

The only slight problem was that the customer was the highest restaurant in the country and all normal access routes were inaccessible.

Like all Jangro Members, Hamish Stuart, MacGregor's Hygiene and Catering Division Manager, accepted the order as just another challenge in the daily life of a janitorial distributor and disregarded the blizzard.

Hamish persuaded the ski-cart operator to take him and the new machine for the last two miles almost vertically to the top, on a vehicle used to prepare the piste for skiers in less harsh conditions.

Travel was slow and extremely hazardous, but Hamish completed the delivery, which took 10 times the normal journey time. It is rumoured that Douggie Sumerville, the grateful catering manager, enjoyed a dram with him to prepare for the downhill return trip.
