Panztel brushes off the recession

* Panztel-office-cleaner.jpgWith a turbulent global economy and difficult trading conditions, organisations in both the private and public sector have been under huge financial strain. Consequently, with the need to reduce overheads and look for efficiency savings, whole areas of operation that were once undertaken in-house have now been contracted out.

Local authorities and other organisations in the public sector have been at the forefront of this trend with cleaning, maintenance, security, social care and many other services now undertaken by agency staff, outside contractors and specialist independent providers. With this has come a rapidly rising demand to monitor and control this 'remote' workforce.

Panztel, the international group with a large UK based operation in Cwmbran, hasbeen well placed to exploit this need. Its eziTracker service has become a market leader in the management control of remote workers, enabling supervisors to ascertain the real time whereabouts of their staff and confirm that site visits and work shifts have been completed as scheduled.

Staff simply have to dial a freephone telephone number using a fixed line phone and key in their unique PIN; eziTracker automatically captures the employee ID, site ID and attendance hours. Data can be accessed online by authorised managers in real time, at any hour, every day of the year. By alerting supervisors to staff 'no shows', eziTracker enables management to respond immediately to any potential breakdown in service.

Local authorities currently make up the biggest sector of registered users of Panztel services. Most of the demand comes from adult social services departments where Panztel provides an invaluable service in the monitoring and safeguarding of domiciliary care staff.

Councils' cleaning and building maintenance departments are also large users of Panztel services along with primary care trusts, employers of cleaners, security and maintenance staff and facilities management companies.

"With the need to reduce overheads and constantly strive for greater efficiency, the long term trend of contracting out services has seen a major advance with the onset of the recession in the past few years," says Jonathan Hudson, managing director of Panztel. "In this respect we have actually benefited from the downturn with a massive rise in the demand for our eziTracker remote workforce monitoring service.

"With more contracted out services there has been a corresponding uplift in the need for electronic verification of service provision for a host of reasons such as accountability, fraud prevention, duty of care, health and safety, safeguarding care workers and enhanced customer relationships".

Since 2007 Panztel has experienced average annual sales growth of 30%; registered users of Panztel's services have more than doubled to 97,000 and UK based staff numbers have increased from 19 to 37.
