Sofidel Group comes to terms with death of chairman, Edilio Stefani
On 30th January - the eve of his 64th birthday - Edilio Stefani, Chairman of tissue giant Sofidel Group, passed away suddenly at his home. This is a tremendous loss for everyone at Sofidel, who express their profound sorrow for this loss and extend their condolences to the entire Stefani family.
In 1980, after completing his technical and commercial studies, Edilio joined the company alongside his father, Cavaliere del Lavoro and co-founder Emi Stefani. He made his debut in the Fine Paper plant in Porcari (Lucca), now known as Soffass Via Leccio, where he refined his knowledge in the field of paper production and converting. These were the years, says Sofidel, that enabled it to acquire national leadership in Italy and to start a process of internationalisation, first in Europe and then, in more recent years (2012), in the US.
Until December 2008, Edilio was general manager of Soffass Via Leccio; from January 2009, he was business development director & technical supervisor of the Group. In March 2021, he took on the position of Chairman of Sofidel.
Established in 1966 and headquartered in Porcari, Sofidel Group is active in 13 countries, 12 in Europe and within 11 States of the US. It has more than 9,000 employees and a production capacity of 1,852,000 metric tons per year (these numbers also include the acquisition of ST Paper and CLW Tissue in 2024). In 2023, the Group had net sales of 3,129 million Euros.
