Taking cleaning to new depths
“Time flies when you’re scrubbing a plane!” says the scuba-diving team at the National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth, Devon, who are, over the coming weeks, giving the facility’s sunken model aircraft in the shark tank a ‘glow up’, with the help of new, diver-friendly electric brushes.
And it’s not just the plane that needs cleaning.
The Perspex viewing windows can quickly become cloudy, so the team dives into the tanks each week to clean these too. It used to be that the plane was cleaned along with the windows and in a similar way, but over time it experienced a build-up of algae, anemone and fish faeces which were difficult to tackle safely, and it was decided that specialist treatment was needed – hence the new, diver-friendly ‘scrubby brush’.
A cleaning job with a difference, eh?
