Healthcare Cleaner of the Year 2012 Awards - shortlist announced

The shortlist for the Association of Healthcare Cleaning Professionals, Healthcare Cleaner of the Year 2012 awards has been announced. The awards are designed to encourage excellence in healthcare cleaning by highlighting and recognising achievement, raising awareness of the profession and the vital work its members perform in hospitals, clinics and residential care homes throughout the UK and Ireland. Nominees from the Rotherham and Leeds areas have dominated the shortlist this year.

There are three categories for award nominations. These are the Healthcare Cleaning Supervisor of the Year, the Outstanding Healthcare Cleaning Team of the Year and the Working in Partnership award.

The awards judges are looking to award individuals and teams who demonstrate that they have consistently delivered excellent services to their customers including, patients, visitors and staff. Factors which are taken into consideration include the range of service improvements delivered, the impact these have had on patient experience and the effect on working relationships both within healthcare cleaning departments and with other healthcare professionals such as nursing, medical and infection prevention teams.

A record number of nominations for each of the three award categories were received this year.

The shortlisted nominations are:

Healthcare Cleaning Supervisor of the Year

Dave Boyt, Moorgreen Hospital, Southampton
Mavis Drew, Wathwood Hospital. Rotherham

Outstanding Healthcare Cleaning Team Award

Disinfection Unit Team, Solent NHS Trust, Portsmouth
Training Team, Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, Rotherham
Domestic Team, Washington Primary Centre, Tyne & Wear

Working in Partnership Award

Chris Ayres, Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, Leeds
Donna Jones, Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust, Rotherham
Debansu Das, Sitexorbis, Uxbridge

The winners will be announced at a black tie dinner to be held during the AHCP 2012 annual national conference, which will take place in Telford from 11th -13th June. Highlights at the conference will include presentations from personal development and organisational change expert Jack Black, and Dame Claire Bertschinger, the woman who inspired Live Aid.

The AHCP's annual national conference and exhibition is the UK's largest annual healthcare cleaning and hygiene event.

The (AHCP) is the professional association for healthcare cleaning in the United Kingdom and Ireland. AHCP members are directly involved in managing and delivering cleaning and hygiene services in most NHS, state funded and independent hospitals. Members also hold key roles in community hospitals, clinics and residential care and nursing homes provided by the public, charitable and independent sectors.

The AHCP develops and maintains the healthcare cleaning standards and protocols used by NHS and most other hospitals to deliver cleaner, safer healthcare environments. Members have access to a range of support services including a detailed knowledge database, an online helpdesk forum, website, newsletter, the AHCP Voice magazine and an extensive programme of professional education, training and development.
