How important are public washrooms?

* LOTY-logo.jpgResidents and visitors to the our towns and cities expect to find clean, hygienic and well maintained publicly accessible toilet facilities when they shop, eat, drink or just enjoy the attractions provided. Without this crucial provision they will find somewhere else to spend their time and money.

Good washrooms demonstrate that the providers care for their users/customers and play an important part in providing attractive and welcoming surroundings. Regrettably, all too often one of the signs of a town or area in decline is the lack of toilets, especially for new visitors arrive or for those who must be able to find a toilet when and where they need it, e.g. those with babies and young children or those with disabilities. These potential customers will not return but will find somewhere else that provides what they need.

Now in its 26th year, Loo of the Year Awards recognises the best in 'away from home' toilets.

Every entry receives an unannounced, dedicated, inspection visit. Entries gaining a bronze, silver, gold or platinum award are presented with a certificate - to help them promote their Award winning facilities to their customers and staff. There are a range of National and UK awards and trophies for the very best entries which will be presented at the 2013 Awards Presentation Event to be held on Friday 6th December at the elegant four star St Johns Hotel in Solihull.

The Attendant of the Year Awards form part of Loo of the Year Awards but relate specifically to the cleaning staff that look after facilities, rather than the loos themselves. Many cleaners and full time toilet attendants, their supervisors and managers attend the Awards Event and are recognised for the essential role that they play in providing award winning toilets. For some of these guests it is a significant reward for a job well done and an experience that they will always remember.

Mike Bone, the Awards Managing Director, says: "Leading retailers, restaurant and pub chains, visitor attractions, holiday parks, shopping centres, local authorities, and the cleaning sector recognise their entries in the annual Loo of the Year Awards as a proven, cost effective and independent annual assessment of the standard of their toilet provision management and receive proper recognition through our annual grading scheme".

Anyone can nominate any number of 'away from home' loos and entries can also be made online via the Awards website. Closing date for entries is 31st July.
