Leading the way on tourism that's both clean and green

* HandTowel.jpgKimberly-Clark Professional has entered into partnership with the Green Tourism Business Scheme to promote the sustainable procurement of hygiene products by companies in the tourism industry.

Following an assessment of the manufacturer's UK operation, Green Tourism has agreed to endorse a range of hygiene products that provide sustainability benefits, including Kleenex Hand Towels and Luxury Foam Cleansers, Scott Hand Towels and Toilet Tissue, Wypall Wipers and Microfibre Cloths, and Andrex Toilet Tissue. The move means Kimberly-Clark Professional now holds the coveted Green Tourism 'Preferred Supplier' status.

Green Tourism is the UK's national sustainable tourism certification scheme. Its members, which include hotels, restaurants, travel companies and operators of leisure attractions, have met rigorous criteria covering a range of areas such as energy and water consumption, social projects and diversity.
The manufacturer has also been announced as a headline sponsor of the Green Tourism GoldStar Awards. Taking place next week, the awards recognise tourism companies that have successfully implemented business practices to protect the environment, improve customer service and benefit profitability.

"We share many important values with Green Tourism, including an emphasis on taking a 'lifecycle' approach to sustainability," says Lori Shaffer, Sustainability Marketing Manager at Kimberly-Clark Professional. It means that together we can make a difference by proactively evaluating each stage of the product and service lifecycle and identifying ways to reduce our impact on the environment."

Andrea Nicholas, Director of Green Tourism, adds: "We are delighted that Kimberly-Clark Professional has agreed to sponsor the GoldStar Awards this year. Green Tourism is the biggest sustainable tourism accreditation programme in the world with thousands of members in the UK and an influence that stretches from central Europe and Scandinavia to Canada and New Zealand. These Awards are a recognition of the best of the best in Britain when it comes to creating and maintaining a thriving sustainable tourism industry."

In a special presentation to take place at the Green Tourism GoldStar Awards ceremony, attendees will hear how Kimberly-Clark Professional has helped Langdale Hotels enhance its environmental credentials by bringing in hygiene products that score highly on sustainability. Taking the stage to tell the story will be Lindsay Bruce, the company's Key Account Manager.
