Revolutionary energy saving ventilation canopy shortlisted for two healthcare awards

* eco-flow.jpgMedical Air Technology (MAT) is celebrating after its revolutionary ECO-flow product was shortlisted for both the 'Innovative Carbon Reduction and 'Sustainability' categories in the Building Better Healthcare Awards which took place in London last week.

The awards celebrate innovation, architecture, people, products and services that are helping to transform patient care across the UK.

ECO-flow is an energy efficient range of self-contained, ultra-clean ventilation canopies, specially designed to help public and private healthcare trusts to meet the Government's initiative of reducing carbon emissions by 80% by 2050. ECO-flow is also an exceptional system to help healthcare professionals maximise their ultraclean zone.

The ECO-flow's fan units are double inlet centrifugal type units with built-in, specially designed energy efficient motors. These are infinitely speed variable through the ECO-flow's PLC control system which constantly monitors and adjusts each of the fan units. This provides exceptional results, allowing ECO-flow to be run in full ultra-clean mode, whilst absorbing less than 1.6kW of power. Results show that this is approximately 50 to 60% lower than alternative canopies using controlled low energy fans.

Recently MAT installed its 100th ECO-flow unit at Dewsbury and District Hospital in Wakefield, marking a significant milestone for the specialist clean air engineering company.

"ECO-flow was launched in 2013 and organisations are already seeing the unit as a fundamental and dynamic solution to significantly lower energy levels whilst improving operation costs," says Steve Stott, managing director at Medical Air Technology. "Furthermore, it is such a fantastic achievement to see that the hard work produced by the team has been recognised by the healthcare industry.

"We are delighted that MAT was shortlisted as the environment and carbon reduction are at the forefront of our agenda. We are always looking for eco-friendly solutions to minimise the environmental impact for our customers, as well as being involved in various health and safety schemes and initiatives".
MAT is also continuing to work on a whole host of energy saving technologies for cutting-edge modern operating theatres. In the next 18 months they will be adding a number of what it says are unique and innovative products to complement the ECO-flow range.

The aim of the Carbon Reduction Initiative Award was to recognise a product, process or service that has helped to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of the healthcare trust involved. ECO-flow was also shortlisted under the Sustainability category as it has been a key factor in helping to improve sustainability and reduce energy costs and carbon emissions within the health and social care sectors.
