International award for innovative hygiene solution SmartProtec

The new antimicrobial powder coating SmartProtec, which sets new standards in cold room hygiene, received the title 'Highly Commended' in the 'Best Food Service Innovation' category of the Gulfood Awards 2015.

The awards recognise outstanding and pioneering achievements with significant commercial benefits to the food and beverage industries.

Gulfood in Dubai is the leading trade fair for the food industry, hotels and hospitality sector in the Near and Middle East. The awards are presented at the event, and cover six categories.

The 'Highly Commended' SmartProtec powder coating is a standard element of the hygiene package offered by Viessmann TectoStandard and Tecto Special cold and deep-freezing rooms. The coating prevents the formation of biofilms by altering the properties of the internal and external surfaces of the wall, floor and ceiling elements of the cold rooms. Bacteria and fungi habitats are destroyed and therefore cannot survive. SmartProtec performed outstandingly in the product tests and combated 20% more microbial strains (including black mould) than its predecessor SilverProtec, which already had excellent antibacterial properties.

In addition, Viessmann has received recommendation from the German Federal Association of Food Inspectors for SmartProtec.
