Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news

Read by industry professionals in 148 countries worldwide!

Welcome to the first of our ISSA/Interclean Dailies; designed to give you a flavour of the show and what you can expect to see and do here if you’re coming along… and what you’re missing out on if you’re not coming!

Amsterdam is a wonderful city – and with over 170 different nationalities and a 45% ethnic minority, its population is one of the most diverse in Europe. The show is a bit like that too – highly diverse in terms of both exhibitors and visitors.

The organisers tell us that more than 650 exhibitors from 41 countries will be showcasing their wares and that an incredible 85% of these are international exhibitors. And bearing in mind that there is a steady 30% growth in new exhibitors each time the show is staged, there is guaranteed to be something new to see here (and we are told that this year, there are thousands of new and award-winning products to examine)!

But it’s not just about getting your hands on new products. It’s about the networking too. And what better place to do it?

The fact that there will be nearly 25,000 visitors from over 116 countries -71% international visitors – makes this an unrivalled networking opportunity.

So what else is there to see and do here?

Some hghlights and semnars are listed below. We hope to see you at some of them!

Yours,

This Week's News

This year there will be special iZones for demonstrations on High Pressure Cleaning, Sanitary Hygiene systems, Steam Cleaning, Platforms and City Cleaning.

You will also be able to see the latest equipment being used in a ‘live showcase’, for cleverly, the organisers have invited all the exhibitors to place their most innovative equipment  at the disposal of the RAI cleaning contractor. The contractor’s staff will use the equipment during the exhibition; cleaning the show floor, the washrooms and the outside premises. What better way is there to see how equipment performs than when it is used by well trained professionals in a real life situation?

There will also be a Miniskills competition that will be worth watching and four teams have signed up to take part:

Dutch Professional team, Hago

Dutch Students team, Arcus College

Austrian Professional team

Hungarian Professional team

The teams will demonstrate special cleaning methods: Strip and remove polymer (linoleum); Crystallizing (marmer)

They will also work in a clean room and use steam to clean a hospital room.

Professionals in the specific fields covered will judge the cleaning and announce the winner. The team with the most points after completing all four categories, will win.

After the successful introduction of this competition in 2010, this specialised cleaning method will have a dedicated area in Hall 5 with direct access to an outside location where the various applications and techniques of high pressure are demonstrated; for example graffiti removal, facade cleaning, gum removal and ice blasting.

Also, less familiar high pressure technologies, such as ice blast cleaning, reaching hard-to-access areas, chemical and industrial cleaning, and the use of environmentally friendly cleaning solutions, can be demonstrated.

And of course, the winners of the 2012 Innovations Awards will be announced, and visitors will be able to inspect all the products that were entered into the awards and talk to some of the teams behind them.

UK Business Speaker of the Year 2011/012 and past Silver Medallist in the World Championship of Public Speaking, Phillip Khan-Panni, will present a valuable and beneficial study on how to get the best from doing business with clients around the world, from Japan to the US, Russia and South Africa.

What about the hundreds of individual companies, large and small, who go to make this show the foremost event in the global cleaning and hygiene industry?

The UK National Carpet Cleaners Association’s Keith Robertson was at the show yesterday during set up and he reported:

"A great deal of preparatory work was going on in the 10 exhibition halls. Even at 17.00 hundreds of construction workers were still busy and the carpet fitters were yet to start… nevertheless by the start of the show everything will be ready for the thousands of visitors. From what I have already seen there are some amazing products."

Time and space allows us to only mention a few for now - more later during the week!

Italian manufacturer Adiatek has given birth to a new Baby

Cromwell Polythene

* Cromwell_clinical_waste.jpgCromwell Polythene is using the exhibition to relaunch its clinical waste sacks range, which makes extensive use of star seal technology to maximise carrying capacity, while optimising leak resistance.

"Star seal technology enables bags to be manufactured without gussets, eliminating gaps along the seals where leaks sometimes occur," explained sales director Paul Fleetwood. "It also leads to a less formed shape, allowing the sack more easily to mould itself to the contours of a container, in those instances where one is used, distributing the weight of the content evenly around the bag. Compact packaging means less space taken up in vehicles, which provides a further boost to the sustainability of these products."

Alani

"At Alani, we have committed ourselves to the environment,” said the team on the stand (10.514). “This is why last year we obtained the Eco Label Certificate for all our tissue paper products.” This Spanish company manufactures and exports globally 100% pure cellulose tissue paper and also imports and exports janitorial supplies.

Its latest launch is the Compact Coreless toilet roll, which has a universal sized inner hole that allows you to use it with any coreless dispenser in the market.

"It is equal to 4.5 of the conventional toilet roll," said the team. "The fact that it doesn’t have a core means that more tissue can be packed onto a pallet – saving transport and storage costs and cutting the frequency that that dispenser needs to be filled."
