Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news

Read by industry professionals in 148 countries worldwide!

I finished the news for Cleanzine early this week but decided to leave the leader for a couple of days to see if something interesting came up that I’d want to write about. I checked my Facebook page and immediately stumbled across what was to become the basis for my leader.

Look at this… a short video which shows the dramatic impact mankind’s attitude to waste disposal has on the wildlife of an otherwise uninhabited island 2000km from any other coastline.

Please watch (it’s just a couple of minutes) and react accordingly:

Legal ruling on criminal record disclosures requires contractors/employers to take extra care

Some cleaning contracts require those doing the cleaning to have a Disclosure & Barring Service check (formerly known as the CRB check) and while this has had its problems in the past - mainly due to the length of time it took for the checks to be carried out and their cost, when one considers the rapid turnover of cleaning staff - the process has run fairly smoothly in recent years. All that could be about to change though, with the recent ruling by the Court of Appeal, that the law compelling employees to disclose all previous criminal convictions to employers infringes the Convention for Human Rights.

Room disinfection robot gains UK acceptance after successful NHS trials

* Smart-UVC.jpg
It may look like a futuristic gadget from a science fiction movie, but this germ-killing robot is a new, efficient method of tackling hospital superbugs, which could save the NHS more than £200 million a year if adopted nationwide

The remote-controlled Tru-D SmartUVC device is an automated total room disinfection system that uses SmartUVC technology to accurately measure and deliver the lethal UV dose required to break the DNA of bacteria, virus and spores to render them harmless. It is engineered to silently disinfect shadowed and line-of-sight surfaces from a single placement within a room, overcoming human error such as missed and difficult-to-reach surfaces, improper chemical applications, incorrect placement, and unreliable "blind-dose guessing" associated with lesser advanced and disruptive strobe light offerings. It is said to kill 99.9% of infectious room-surface pathogens in a fraction of the time now required for cleaning..
