Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 163 countries worldwide! Prior to John and I launching Cleanzine in 2002 I worked with the Association of Building Cleaning Direct Service providers, organising its Annual Conference. Even prior to ‘austerity’, it was difficult for some whose remit was to provide the best cleaning services possible, to persuade management that the comparatively small amount required to attend, would be money well spent. I recall many in-depth conversations with members about the planned content, who needed to hear that at least one speaker would be specifically addressing subject matter deemed crucial to their own particular council. I had to chuckle then while working on a release last week, when I came across something I could really have done with myself, two decades ago. It said: “Eager to attend CSC 2020, but need to convince your boss? Download and personalise the 'Why Attend' letter.” Naturally, I clicked the link… “Need help convincing management of the benefits of attending? We've got you covered! Just fill in the blanks to personalise this letter, and it will be hard for anyone interested in promoting the professionalism of your team and facility to say no!” The letter beautifully outlined all the features and benefits before revealing the potential costs. By the time costs were addressed, the decision-maker would already have been convinced that it was imperative the employee attend! Part of it read: “The conference features scientists and other subject-matter experts focused on cleaning, infection prevention and control and sustainability as well as three outstanding motivational keynote speakers. Presentations will cover best practices, current trends, new innovations and technologies, practical tactics and other valuable information I can share with staff to improve our company's performance and productivity and enhance our sustainability, infection prevention and cleaning for health efforts. In addition to two full days of education, the conference features numerous networking opportunities with other industry professionals, which will allow me to make new business connections and clients, share ideas and learn new ways to meet business challenges from other leaders in our industry. Also, it will help me gain a better understanding of the needs of companies in the area. A final component is an expo featuring 90-plus of the industry's leading manufacturers that will be showcasing the newest innovations available, products and services that may increase productivity by allowing our staff to work smarter, faster and more efficiently while assuring we are up to date on the ever-evolving marketplace.” Lisa Veeck, who put this all together, is a genius! I only wish I’d known her two decades ago… You can also follow us on Twitter @cleanzine Yours,
