Products Survey finding shifts in green attitudes and behaviours Yesterday, SC Johnson and GfK Roper Consulting released survey findings on American consumer green attitudes and behaviours, painting a compelling picture of the evolution of consumer interests and actions over the last two decades. Of course the attitudes we have as consumers affects the way we think and behave at work, so this survey is worth examining. Kimberly-Clark introduces patient education programme for HAI prevention Following research which revealed that 56% of respondents were not very familiar or not at all familiar with Healthcare-Associated Infections and their causes, Kimberly-Clark has this week announced a new programme to educate patients about HAI's and steps they can take to aid in their prevention. A new study published in the September 2011 issue of the American Journal of Infection Control (vol. 39 No. 7 pps 555-559) has confirmed that soft surface textiles are significant sources of bacterial contamination in healthcare settings, with 63% of physician and nurse uniforms testing positive for pathogenic organisms, including those that are multi-drug resistant (11%). The study was conducted by the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem. It looked at 238 samples from 135 of its hospital personnel [60 (45%) physicians and 75 (55%) nurses]. WEEE Directive recast negotiations sparking disagreements The European Parliament and the 27 EU member states are set for difficult negotiations over the recast of the bloc's electronic waste directive as MEPs insist on ambitious targets for collecting and recycling discarded fridges, phones and other e-waste than the member states can accept, reports EurActiv. Study confirms 'no link' between use of antibacterial soaps and antibiotic resistance Newly published research reaffirms that the use of antibacterial wash products does not contribute to antibiotic or antibacterial resistance, confirming previous research that showcased similar findings. |

This crowded island of ours has a huge, multi-cultural population and a thriving year-round tourist industry, yet public toilets are not always available where or when you need them, there is often a queue at the ladies, while facilities for disabled people, children and for changing babies are not always adequate. Public toilet provision is at the discretion of local authorities and there is currently no legal requirement for UK Councils to provide any toilets at all. In fact 40% of public toilets have closed in the last 10 years and this figure is likely to increase rapidly, as councils are forced to cut expenditure. Something needs to be done and this is where you come in. The campaign group 'We need the Loo', is a joint venture between the Women's Design Service, the British Toilet Association and the Chartered Institute of Plumbing & Heating Engineering, has launched an online petition to ask the Government to make adequate public toilet provision a legal requirement. Unfortunately you have to be a British Citizen or reside here to be able to sign the petition. However, if you are frequent visitor (no pun intended!) and are dismayed about the closure of so many of our public facilities, you can play your part by letting your business contacts, friends and family over here know about the petition and encourage them to sign it. According to the survey of 12,295 consumers throughout the US, the cleanliness of restaurant interiors, as well as dishes, glasses and silverware, was consistently ranked as having the highest importance when choosing a restaurant. Key insights from the study include: HCI introduces new Infection Control Series televisions for healthcare use HCI has announced the release of their new 26" and 32" Infection Control Series (ICS) RoomMate Digital Televisions for use in hospitals and other healthcare facilities to entertain and educate patients, visitors, and staff. The hospital grade televisions feature new technology that can reduce the risk of infection from the spread of bacteria. First commercially available drier powered by heat pump Miele chose CMS Berlin to present what it claims are the first commercially available driers powered by heat pumps. The team explained that both models, with 250 and 325 litre drum capacity respectively, reduce power consumption by an impressive 60% and there is no need for a waste air extractor line.
