Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news

Read by industry professionals in 163 countries worldwide!

This is issue 662 of Cleanzine – the equivalent of some 55 years-worth of broadcasting when you compare it with magazines that issue only every month! Circulation for our first issue 13 years ago comprised around 4,500 UK contacts John and I had built up over our many years in the cleaning industry, together with contact details of members of UK-based industry associations, whose CEO’s and National Executive Committees and General Secretaries could see the benefits of a weekly source of industry-related information, delivered free-of-charge to their members’ inboxes.

We now have 100,000-plus readers – far more than we envisaged back when the Internet was in its infancy and we still naively regarded the coastline as a barrier. For although we initially set up to ‘cover’ the UK, we soon noticed foreign readers subscribing – we now have more than 20,000 in the US  alone - and before long learned that thanks to us, an advertiser was about to ship his first pallet-load of chemicals to Croatia in what I understand was the start of a long relationship.

And right from our first ever issue, we’ve been supported week in, week out, by Newhaven-based Brightwell Dispensers, whose Neale Pybus liked our plans and had enough confidence in our ability to deliver, that he pledged his support without hesitation. That is until two weeks ago when we inadvertently managed to omit Brightwell’s ad due to a server blip…

I don’t generally mention companies in my leader but thought that under the circumstances I ought to herald the fact that Brightwell’s ad is now back in pride of place, heading up the ads in the centre column! We like to rotate ads to give everyone the chance to be at the top, but Brightwell’s slot has always been non-negotiable. And I’d like to thank Brightwell and our other advertisers – many of whom are also long term supporters, for helping us pay the bills. We couldn’t have done it without you!

And of course we also need editorial – not just from the UK but from all 163 countries that Cleanzine is received. If you’re proud of your products and/or services, please let us know about them so we can tell our readers; a simple email may just help your business skyrocket too!

Please get in touch either by emailing me or posting a comment on our Facebook page. www.facebook.com/Cleanzine

Kalorama: Superbug concerns will drive healthcare facility sterilisation services

* CDC.jpgA device-related superbug outbreak in a Los Angeles hospital has revived concerns over both device and facilities cleaning and sterilisation, says Kalorama Information, which will drive growth in the market for these services.

Kalorama notes that the effectiveness of many antibiotics is waning dramatically, as more and more types of bacteria become resistant to antibiotics. This is forcing the industry to re-evaluate prevention, diagnosis, and treatment plans for patients in hospitals and other health facilities as well as ways to clean and sterilise the facilities themselves.

We have Mail - Living Wage

Dear Jan,

Did you know? Almost every employer in the UK could engage 'The Living Wage' in their cleaning services without having to pay more, so please, do make everyone aware! A rapidly expanding global digital company recently bid its two London office buildings for cleaning services via its global facilities director.

After considering better and far more intelligent ways of working in its cleaning operations, the company saved £80K per annum on its current contract cleaning spend from the 1st bid option Thames put before them. The global digital entertainment company then decided to opt to re-invest £40K of that £80K annual saving, by choosing Thames' 2nd bid option paying 'The London Living Wage'!
