We have Mail: Any idiot can clean? With reference to your recent lead article (Any idiot can clean? www.facebook.com/Cleanzine), those of us connected to the cleaning industry are blighted before we even start. Skilled professionals in all their individual areas, (engineers, surgeons, pilots etc) are respected for their skill, their knowledge, and their application. We all admire them, but unfortunately every adult on the planet is a cleaner!! All have been made to clean at some time in their life at home, or in their personal environment, and they think they are now experts, so when a professional cleaner performs, he or she is facing silent but intense scrutiny from the outset. Ecolab to acquire Purate business from AkzoNobel Ecolab has reached an agreement to acquire AkzoNobel's Purate business, which specialises in global antimicrobial water treatment technology. With 2012 revenue of approximately $23 million, the Purate business provides patented, proprietary chlorine dioxide programmes for use in a wide array of water treatment applications. Completion of the transaction is subject to customary regulatory clearances and other standard closing conditions. Guests expect a 'Spring Clean' standard all year round from hospitality operators

Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 148 countries worldwide! Since qualifying as a journalist in 1986 I've attended hundreds of press launches. Although some have been memorable because they've been held at a wonderful venue, there are many I've remembered because they've gone wrong... robots that have apparently carried out the same procedures a thousand times suddenly going haywire in front of the assembled press, the journalist who gently touched the display and created a domino effect which caused the whole thing to collapse, press-filled executive coaches that broke down en route, a nervous presenter vomiting into the sleeve of his jacket, visitors going missing during factory tours and presentations that have been so hard to understand that when we were asked to submit questions, there was an embarrassed silence from the floor... A launch I attended last week will be another one I'll always remember as when questions were invited, an indignant young woman stepped forward and loudly announced that she felt very cross. "You've really undersold yourselves!" she opined, before outlining a whole host of extra benefits that she, her colleagues and the cleaners had enjoyed while trialling the new concept. I know I wasn't the only one that initially believed Minnie Patel, Manager of Facilities at K&L Gates, was part of the act and it was only the reaction of the presentation team that convinced us that she wasn't! Subsequent discussions surprised us all in just how the concept has positively impacted on everyone involved and I couldn't help thinking that this just had to be the future of cleaning. You can read more about it below and I'd be really interested in learning what you think about it. John and I will be flying out to Verona on Monday to cover the Pulire exhibition and conference. The event quite took us both by surprise when we attended for the first time in 2011 with its size, professionalism and vitality and we're really excited about seeing what's in store this year - particularly as once again we're on the Innovation Awards judging panel so will really be in a position to help shape the future of our industry. Look out for our daily bulletins from the show floor and if you see us there, do make sure you say 'Buongiorno'! And if of course you're an exhibitor showing something of which you're proud, do please get in touch prior to the event so we can arrange to visit your stand and learn more. Please get in touch either by emailing me or posting a comment on our Facebook page. www.facebook.com/Cleanzine Yours, This Week's News
