Welcome to the Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 163 countries worldwide! When Quartz’s Vanessa Van Santen-Smith told us at the Pulire exhibition in Verona that she was working with the British Cleaning Council to organise a Manchester cleaning show, to cater for those who’d not been able to attend the London Cleaning Show, we were delighted and – with Vanessa’s permission – shared the news with you. Others in the industry were not so delighted and far from supporting the show, were warning companies planning to exhibit, that they should only book a small stand as the show was unlikely to be a success – if it happened at all. So not only were they not supporting the show (which raises money for the UK cleaning industry), they were actually setting it up to fail. They hadn’t reckoned on the will of some of the Northern cleaning industry players though, who were determined to make the show a success – one of them being Greyland Chemicals’ Richard Dyson who came up with the ‘Northern Powerhouse’ slogan and wrote a comment piece for us about the need for a show to support the industry in that neck of the woods. Nick Wyers from Floorbrite and the teams from BonaSystems, Morclean and Bunzl in particular, have also pushed hard to create some excitement – as have others. Richard Dyson tells us that in response to the first wave of VIP invitations he’s sent out to distributors, he’s had acceptances from as far afield as Dublin, South Wales, London and Kent – so it’s not just locals who’ll be attending. Total visitor registrations now stand at around 2000 and almost 70 stands have been booked by companies of all sizes including some big names… companies that had chosen not to exhibit at the last of the national cleaning shows in Birmingham. “Wow, I’m amazed at how this has all come together… the way everybody has got involved and done their bit to make it happen,” Richard told us. John Austen and I agree too that working together, our industry can achieve great things and it has surprised us in the past, when listening to exhibitors moan about the lack of show visitors, that they’ve not bothered to do something as basic as invite their contacts along. If you’re exhibiting in Manchester and haven’t yet invited your contacts to attend, please do it soon so we can show everyone just how great our ‘Northern Powerhouse’ can be. Please get in touch either by emailing me or posting a comment on our Facebook page. www.facebook.com/Cleanzine
