Welcome to the
Cleanzine - the original Cleaning & Hygiene industry e-news Read by industry professionals in 148 countries worldwide! I mentioned in last week’s leader that this week’s issue would carry an interview with Martin Scott, who used to be the face of the UK Cleaning Show and who many claim has split the industry by launching The Cleaning Expo into the slot left by BCCE (British Cleaning Council Exhibitions) when it decided to move the Cleaning Show from Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre to London’s Excel, for 2015. It’s clear from many of your comments that there is a great deal of confusion and misinformation surrounding these moves so my job has been to set the record straight and I’m hoping that I’ve managed to do that in this interview published below. To say that my ‘phone has been ‘ringing off the hook’ with people wanting to discuss the whys and wherefores of both Martin’s decision and the British Cleaning Council’s wish to move the Cleaning Show to London is something of an understatement, so please accept my apologies for the late arrival of today’s issue. I’m hoping to be able to speak with representatives from the BCC over the coming days with a view to running a further article on these changes in next week’s issue, which should allow readers to make an informed decision about what to do next. In the meantime, following our Pulire Finale issue last week, we have reverted to showing previous UK and other international news temporarily dislodged by news from Verona. Please get in touch either by emailing me or posting a comment on our Facebook page. www.facebook.com/Cleanzine Yours, This Week's News
Interview with Martin Scott, Exhibition Director, Cleaning Expo Cleanzine: We’ve had calls from people in the industry who are accusing you of creating a split within the industry by setting up a rival show to the established Cleaning Show, which as you know is moving to London’s Excel for 2015. People are saying that your show will effectively take money from the British Cleaning Council, which normally benefits from a percentage of the profits from the established show which it helps to run. What’s going on and why? Martin: I’m not setting up a rival show but providing an alternative for those that want one – and believe me, the industry wants one! Facilities management industry bodies plan to unite in one representative body The British Institute of Facilities Management, Asset Skills, the Facilities Management Association and the Cleaning & Support Services Association have agreed to the concept of forming one single and united body to represent facilities management & support services. As the facilities management and support services profession and industry have matured and evolved, so too must the bodies representing and leading them. This proposed merger recognises the growing demand for a stronger, unified and collective voice that represents and promotes what is a fundamental component of our economy and day to day businesses.
